Sonepur: In a daring firing incident, a youth was shot dead near the sub collector’s office at Birmaharajpur in Odisha’s Sonepur district.
Police have intensified investigation into the firing incident and sent scientific teams to the spot on Saturday.
The deceased, identified as Bikram Maharana of Champamal village in
Birmaharajpur tehsil. He was travelling on his motorcycle when he was hit by a bullet on Friday evening. Bikram was immediately admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Birmaharajpur. As his condition worsened, he was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital at Sonepur, where he succumbed to his injuries.
His father filed a complaint with the police alleging the involvement of Subham Pritam Hota alias Biki of the same village in the crime. Police have registered a case and recovered a firearm, motorcycle as well as belongings of the deceased from the site.
Biki is absconding and a hunt is on to trace him. Investigation is underway to gather information and apprehend the accused, a senior police official said.
