Rayagada: A youth allegedly slit the throat of a Plus II girl student when she was emerging out of a college after appearing for the board examination in Odisha’s Rayagada district on Thursday.
According to sources, the broad daylight attack was reported from Gunupur in Rayagada.
The attacker was waiting near Droupadi College with a knife. Soon after the girl came out of the examination centre, the youth allegedly stopped the student and slit her throat with the sharp weapon.
The girl, a student of Droupadi College, was returning to her home in Bisama Cuttack after writing the annual board 2 examination when the incident took place.
The critically injured girl was immediately rushed to a community health centre (CHC) nearby and was later shifted to MKCG hospital in Berhampur as her condition deteriorated, sources said.
On being informed, police personnel rushed to the site and detained the youth, whose identity is yet to be disclosed.
Investigation into the incident is underway and further details are awaited.
