Keonjhar: A youth died after allegedly being slow poisoned by his younger brother at Gundicha Colony in Salpada under Anandapur block in Odisha’s Keonjhar district.
Sources claimed that Satyabrata Das slow poisoned his elder brother Debabrata Das for being overprotective and strict with him. An audio of their purported conversation before Debabrata’s death has also gone viral in which he speaks about his deteriorating health while accusing his younger brother of poisoning him over a farm and for asking him to focus on studies.
“What pains me more than the physical discomfort that I am experiencing now is that my own brother poisoned me. I can never forgive you till I am alive. You have tried to kill me in a pre-planned manner and if I lodge a complaint, you will have to spend the rest of your life in jail.”
While calling his younger brother a psycho, he can also be heard pleading with him to name the poisons to help the doctors find a cure for him. Satyabrata can also be heard confessing that that he had mixed monocrotophos (a pesticide) in his food thrice. He even allegedly locked Debabrata in a room and released formaldehyde.
He was later rescued in a critical condition by family members and rushed to a hospital in Cuttack, where he was treated for nine days during which he called his brother and recorded the conversation, and then shifted to Bhubaneswar, where his condition worsened leading to his death.
When contacted, the father of the duo, Pradeep Das, said, “Before his death, my son said that he didn’t want to lodge any complaint against his own brother still I went to the police station. But, I was asked to wait until the postmortem report comes.”
