Balangir: A youth died while another sustained critical injuries after unidentified miscreants allegedly attacked them with sharp weapons in Odisha’s Balangir district late on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Saroj Panigrahi, a resident of Sarobarapada. The injured, Prema Sahu, belongs to Kandhapalipada in the western Odisha town.
According to sources, the incident took place near Nrusingha Temple when the two youths were on their way home after attending the Sital Sasthi Yatra. They were waylaid by some miscreants on two-wheelers, leading to an argument, and then one among them took out a knife and attacked the duo. The profusely bleeding Saroj and Prema were rushed to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital. Saroj, however, succumbed to his injuries.
Prema is under treatment at the hospital and his condition is stated to be critical.
Balangir Town police have initiated an investigation to nab the culprits.
