Bhubaneswar: The Saheed Nagar police have arrested three persons for allegedly stabbing a youth to death in Odisha’s capital on Saturday night. The accused were identified as Milu, Satya and Jitendra. Police have seized a knife used in the incident, a Scooty and a car.
Police said locals caught one of the accused while the other two were arrested following raids at different places.
Tension prevailed at Press Chhak in Gajapati Nagar, where the incident took place, on Sunday morning. Police identified the deceased as Niranjan Parida alias Chintu, who was from Gadakana. One of his friends, identified as Vishal Patra, was also stabbed and was admitted to a hospital here in critical condition.
Police said Niranjan and Vishal were attacked at an eatery at Press Chhak by the accused. While some reports said the incident took place at a bakery shop, others said it happened at a momo outlet.
According to reports, Niranjan, Vishal and another friend were having food. The accused also arrived at the shop. They attacked the victims after an altercation. According to reports, comments reportedly passed at a girl led to the altercation.
The victims were rushed to hospital, where Niranjan succumbed to his injuries.
Locals staged a road block demanding the arrest of the accused. “We want the Commissionerate Police to thoroughly probe the incident,” a local resident said.
