Cuttack: In a shocking incident, a youth allegedly stabbed a woman and her minor daughter near a village in Cuttack district.
While the critically injured woman and the daughter have been admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, police have begun a manhunt to nab the accused.
According to sources, Kalpana Gochhayat, a native of Kaduapada village under Rasola police limits in Dhenkanal district, worked as a sweeper in a private college near Dhenkanal town.
On Saturday, Kalapana had set out for her in-law’s house in Dhenkanal town when her distantly-related cousin offered her a lift on his bike.
However, instead of taking her to her in-law’s house, her cousin turned his bike towards Cuttack and suddenly began to stab her and her six-year-old daughter with a knife on the outskirts of Dwarabatipur village near Ghantikhal. As Kalpana shouted for help, some villagers rushed to the spot and her cousin fled the area on his bike.
On being informed, a team of policemen of Khuntuni police station rushed to the spot and admitted Kalpana and her daughter to the sub-divisional hospital in Athagarh from where they were shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after their condition became critical.
The assailant has been identified and he will be arrested very soon, police said.
