Baripada: In a ghastly incident, a youth was allegedly tied to a tree and beaten to death over suspicion of having an extra-marital affair at a village in in Betnoti area of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
According to sources, the shocking incident took place at Kenduchatia village under the jurisdiction of Betnoti polic station of the district.
The youth, identified as Sunaram Tudu (25) of Gandigodha village, was allegedly tied to a tree and beaten up with wooden logs and bamboo sticks by two persons. The youth reportedly died on the spot.
The two, identified as Jasaya Tudu and his son Bapun, have been detained by the police. The two suspected that Sunaram had an extra-marital affair with Jayasa’s wife.
Sources said some riligious rituals were performed in the village on Monday night after which a customary dance was held. Sunaram and Jasaya’s wife, who took part in it, reportedly disappeared from the spot.
Jasaya later found the two in a compromising position at an isolated place. He along along with his son took Sunaram to the village, tied him up to a tree with a rope and thrashed him, leading to his death.
On being informed, police personnel along with a scientific team rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. The two accused persons have been detained for interrogation and probe is in progress. Further details are awaited.
