Berhampur: Police recovered the mutilated body of a youth from near a canal at Narayanpur under K Nuagaon police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
The deceased has been identified as Milan Sahu, a resident of Deuliapada village of Chandapur panchayat under Chikiti block in the district.
Locals spotted Milan’s body on Sunday and informed the police following which K Nuagaon police along with a forensic team reached the spot and began a probe. The body was sent to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for postmortem and later handed over to the family members.
According to police sources, Sahu’s body was found with deep injuries on his head and face probably caused by a blunt object. A security guard of the Nuapada College said he met Milan on Saturday evening and spoke to him too briefly. His family members informed the police that they last spoke to him over the phone at around 10 pm on Saturday, but after some time he was not reachable.
The deceased was allegedly involved in gambling and had disputes with fellow gamblers, locals told police. Preliminary investigation and circumstantial evidence point to a pre-planned murder, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) K Nuagaon police station Kishore Kumar Samal told media.
