Youth’s Death Triggers ‘Inflated Bill’ Protest At Bhubaneswar Hospital

Bhubaneswar: Tension erupted at a private hospital here following the death of a youth undergoing treatment on Monday.

The deceased’s family staged a protest at the hospital, alleging that they were handed an inflated medical bill of Rs 9 lakh.

Congress MLA Sura Routray also sat in protest with the family. “We have brought the attention of the hospital authorities regarding the bill amount of Rs 9 lakh. We want the issue to be solved immediately,” the MLA said.

The protest was called off after the hospital authorities assured the protesters to look into the matter.

The MLA, however, threatened to stage another protest if the issue was not solved within two days. “If there is any complacency by the hospital authorities regarding the matter, we will again sit here in protest on Wednesday,” he said.
