Bhubaneswar: A dhaba owner was critically injured after two unidentified persons opened fire on him at Kalinga Studio Chhak near Khandagiri here on Thursday night.
The victim, identified as Nilu, was rushed to a private hospital with critical gunshot wounds.
According to the sources, he was attacked following an argument over chicken pakora. Two youths came to Nilu’s dhaba and asked for chicken pakora. They picked up a fight with Nilu when told that it was not available. The enraged youths then shot at him. Thereafter, they immediately fled the spot.
Past enmity is also being suspected as a reason behind the incident. Khandagiri police have started investigation and launched a manhunt to nab the culprits.
On September 2, a businessman was shot dead by unidentified miscreants at Phiringipatna area under Sahadevkhunta police limits in Balasore district.
He was identified as Manas Ranjan Das.
The incident took place when Manas was about to open the gate of his house after reaching home at night. As soon as he parked his motorcycle near his house, two miscreants came on a bike and shot him in his chest.
Das was rushed to the district headquarters hospital by police in a critical condition. However, the doctors declared him brought dead.
Police sources said Manas was running a transport business. The incident was suspected to be the fallout of an old enmity.
