Mumbai: After weeks of speculation, Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal has finally broken his silence over ex-wife and choreographer Dhanashree Verma’s repeated emotional outbursts and allegations against him on Ashneer Grover’s ‘Rise and Fall’.
Rubbishing the cheating allegations levied against him by his ex-wife in the reality show, Chahal firmly stated that he is a sportsperson and can never cheat.
“I am a sportsperson and I do not cheat. Agar koi two months mein hi cheat karta toh itna lamba relationship chalta kya? (If I had cheated after two months of getting married, then our marriage wouldn’t have lasted for so long?) For me, this chapter is over, done and dusted. I have moved forward with my life and everyone else should do, too,” Chahal was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
He called rumours of infidelity “baseless and exhausting.”
“Hamari shaadi 4.5 years thi. Agar two months mein cheat hua hota toh kaun continue karta? Mai pehle bhi bol chuka hun ki mai past se nikal chuka hun. But some people are still stuck there… unka ghar mere naam se chal raha hai toh they can continue doing that. I am not concerned or affected, (We were married for four and a half years. If I had cheated after two months of getting married, then why did she continue to stay with me after that? I have said this earlier also, I am done with my past. Bhut some people are still stuck there… They run their houses using my name, so they can continue doing that,)” he added while setting the records straight.
Dhanashree has been grabbing headlines for her revelations about her married life with Chahal in the reality show. She alleged that Chahal had cheated on her after two months of their marriage during an emotional conversations with the other contestants on the show.
She also alleged that she noticed changes in Chahal after their engagement ceremony.
During an interview with the Humans of Bombay earlier, Dhanashree had said that bad days outweighed the good times in her marriage.
Dhanashree had said, “I feel like grief, true grief, true chaos in a marriage, it has to be understood between both parties. It has to be acknowledged, identified. When you get married, there is love. It is love that gets two people together. But when you actually end it, sometimes it is a space of distrust. But that does not give you the power to disrespect. You need to maintain respect throughout.”
Chahal and Dhanashree got married in December 2020. After a tumultuous marriage, the couple got legally divorced in 2025.
