New Delhi: Comedian Kapil Sharma left a void after his The Kapil Sharma Show ended last year and he moved on to Netflix to host The Great Indian Kapil Show. To fill this gap temporarily, the show Madness Machayenge- India Ko Hassayenge, with actor Huma Qureshi as a regular guest, was aired. Popular stand-up comedian Zakir Khan will now take over the TV slot left open by Kapil.
According to the Hindustan Times, Zakir Khan’s new show will blend poetry and comedy, a style that he’s known for and has a lot of fans. Zakir wants to reach more people with this TV show, which is set to start airing in August. The show will also have Bollywood guests, similar to what made Kapil Sharma’s show so popular.
A source close to the development told HT, “Zakir’s show will have a mix of shayari and comedy, which is typical Zakir style. The comedian has built his own audience that connects with his shayarana side and with this show, he aims to reach a wider audience. Currently, Madness Machayenge is running on air and is soom expected to wrap up. Zakir’s show is expected to air from August on TV. Along with Zakir’s shayari and comedy, the show will also have Bollywood guests as it used to happen on Kapil’s show too.” This is Zakir Khan’s second time on TV, following his role as a mentor on the fifth season of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge in 2017. He also hosted a comedy show on OTT called Farzi Mushaira, where he combined his shayari and comedy talents with famous guests.
Kapil’s OTT show recently finished filming amid rumours of low ratings. However, the team denied this and announced upcoming guests, including the cast of Heeramandi, Ed Sheeran, Rajkummar Rao, and Janhvi Kapoor. Meanwhile, Madness Machayenge, the TV replacement for Kapil’s show, faced criticism from Karan Johar for its mimicry. The guest lineup for Zakir’s show is still being decided.
Notably, Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover reunited for Netflix’s The Great Indian Kapil Show after six years. Their friendship has been delighting viewers.
