Bhubaneswar: The Directorate of Census Operations, Odisha, in collaboration with the state’s Department of Revenue and Disaster Management, will launch the first phase of the Census and House Listing operations across all 30 districts of the state, starting April 16.
On the occasion, a special song dedicated to the Census will be formally released.
Trained enumerators and supervisors will conduct door-to-door visits to collect household data from April 16 to May 15. Prior to the field enumeration, the Self-Enumeration phase is currently underway from April 1 to midnight of April 15, allowing citizens to submit their information online through the official portal at se.census.gov.in.
According to an official release, 1.76 lakh households have already provided their details through the Self-Enumeration portal. The public has been urged to make maximum use of this facility and complete their self-enumeration by the April 15 deadline.
Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati was the first citizen to complete the digital self-enumeration for the Census 2027 in Odisha. Chief Minister Mohan Majhi completed his own registration to promote the fully digital, 30-district exercise aimed at improving policy planning, on April 3. Odisha Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik participated in the digital self-enumeration process for the Census 2027, encouraging citizens to submit their household data via the online portal.
This marks India’s first fully digital Census, introducing self-enumeration for the first time. The data submitted online will subsequently be verified by official enumerators during the field phase. Digital tools, including the CMMS Portal, are also being used to prepare house listing blocks.
District Collectors and Municipal Corporation Commissioners will serve as Principal Census Officers, while Additional District Collectors will act as District Census Officers. Tehsildars and Executive Officers of statutory towns will function as Charge Officers. The Revenue and Disaster Management Department is the nodal department for the exercise. Primary school teachers from the School and Mass Education Department have been appointed as enumerators, and high school teachers will work as supervisors. These officials will use a mobile application to collect household data during the door-to-door phase.
For any queries or difficulties related to the Census and House Listing operations, citizens can contact the Census Directorate, Odisha, on the toll-free number 1855. “The success of the programme depends on active public participation, officials emphasised. Citizens are encouraged to cooperate fully with enumerators and provide accurate information,” the official release added.
