Baripada: Two persons were killed and six others, including two children, sustained injuries after being hit by lightning at Khadikasula in Mayurbhanj district on Thursday.
According to available information, the incident took place when the victims had taken shelter in a house following heavy rain while returning home at Bangiriposi from Tulasibani area in the district.
The injured were immediately rushed to Bangiriposi community health centre for treatment.
In a similar incident in Angul district the previous day, two persons were killed and another sustained critical injuries near Jarapada village under Derjang police limits.
The deceased identified as Santilata Pradhan and Baisakhi Pradhan were working in an agricultural field near the village when lightning struck them.
Another person of the same village was critically injured after being hit by lightning and was rushed to the district headquarters hospital for treatment.
