New Delhi: India registered a record single-day spike of 34,956 COVID-19 cases taking the country’s tally past the 1-million mark to 10,03,832 on Friday.
The death toll surged to 25,602 with 687 more succumbing to the infection across the country in the same period, the Union Health Ministry said.
Meanwhile, India’s COVID-19 recovery rate continued to improve steadily to stand at at 63.33 per cent.
Delhi seems to have turned the tide with close to 1 lakh recoveries i.e. almost 82 per cent of cured cases, and the active-to-total cases ratio slipping below 15 per cent.
Tamil Nadu reported a drop in active cases for the third day in a row.
Maharashtra, the worst COVID-19 hit state, saw its recovery rate increase to almost double of the active cases.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said 1,30,72,718 samples have been tested for COVID-19 in the country so far, including 3,33,228 on Thursday.
In an attempt for capacity building of health workers and volunteers during COVID-19, states have completed training of almost 77 lakh personnel and more than 27 lakh course registrations on iGOT, the integrated Government online training platform.
India ranks 106th with 658 cases per million. Cases per million population in India are four to eight times less than European countries. COVID-19 cases per million in Russia & US are eight and 16 times, respectively, of the corresponding figure in India.
