Nabarangpur: In a shocking incident, a month-old boy was reportedly branded with hot metal in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district in a superstitious method to cure him of ailments.
As the baby fell seriously ill after the branding, he was admitted to Umerkote Hospital for treatment. The incident took place at Phundelpara village under Chandahandi block of the district.
As per information, Saroj Kumar Nayak’s infant son, Bhavyansu was down with fever with high temperature ten days ago and was crying uncontrollably. Instead of seeking medical help, the family branded him more than 30 times with hot metal, believing it would cure him.
As his condition deteriorated, the family members took him to the sub-divisional hospital at Umerkote for treatment..
On being informed about the case, Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Dr Santosh Kumar Panda visited the hospital and supervised the baby’s treatment. Doctors confirmed that the baby’s condition had stabilised. Their focus is to ensure his complete recovery.
Following the incident, the authorities concerned and doctors stressed the urgent need for intensified awareness campaigns to prevent such superstitious harmful practices.
