Bhubaneswar: To create awareness on millet consumption and promote millets-based enterprises, 10 more Millet Shakti outlets or cafes are being planned in the Odisha capital and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been asked to allocate space for the same.
Besides selling selling millets, these outlets, run by self-help groups (SHGs), will also offer items prepared with millets.
“We have started work to open three more Millet Shakti cafes in the city. We are confident that at least 10 more such cafes will come up in Bhubaneswar alone by the end of 2023,” principal secretary, Agriculture, Arabinda Kumar Padhee told TOI.
These outlets may come up at key locations like Patia and Khandagiri.
The first outlet was inaugurated at Krushi Bhavan in 2021 and it was followed by two more at Kalinga Stadium and Kharavel Bhavan here.
He added that the Millet Shakti cafes are also being planned at each district headquarters and prominent locations.
So far, 142 millet outlets or tiffin centres have opened across the state.
In April, the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) had decided to open more millet product stalls at its parks in the city. S such cafes were opened at major parks maintained by it, in two phases last month.
