Bhubaneswar: Odisha has been witnessing a surge in COVID-19 tally with over 1,000 new cases being reported almost every day since July 21.
This has pushed the total reported cases to more than 1000 in 10 districts of Ganjam, Cuttack, Balasore, Gajapati, Jajpur, Koraput, Puri, Rayagada, Sundargarh and Khurda.
Going by the rapid rise in the number of COVID-19 cases, it is being anticipated that the state’s caseload may increase by 65,000 this month. A 10-member team of experts led by the Additional Director of Medical Education and Training, U K Satapathy has arrived at this figure based on a continual analysis of the anticipated increase. However, a projection based on the prevailing trend of fresh cases and fatalities so far has predicted a rise of 50,000 in the state’s caseload in August with around another 200 deaths.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 tally in the state touched 40,717 on Thursday with an overnight addition of 1699 fresh cases. On the other hand, 1150 patients have recovered from the infection while the Odisha government has attributed 235 deaths to COVID-19 and 45 to other underlying diseases.
HOTSPOT DISTRICTS
Ganjam has reported 12,080 positive cases, with 120 deaths and 8911 recoveries so far. The total number of active cases in the district is 3041.
Cuttack district has reported 2731 cases with 11 deaths and 1768 recoveries so far. The total number of active cases in the district is 948.
The COVID-19 tally in Balasore district is 1176 with three deaths and 881 recoveries. The number of active cases in the district is 289.
Gajapati has reported 1834 cases with 14 deaths and 1163 recoveries so far. The total number of active cases in the district is 656.
The COVID-19 tally in Jajpur district has touched 1467 with three deaths and 1196 recoveries. A total of 267 cases are active.
Khurda’s infection tally has climbed to 5531 with 31 deaths and 2615. The active cases in the district are 2877.
The total COVID-19 cases in Koraput district has mounted to 1047 with 502 recoveries. The number of active cases in the district is 545.
Puri district has reported 1059 cases with four deaths and 682 recoveries so far. The total number of active cases in the district is 371.
The COVID-19 infection tally in Rayagada district is 1173 with 10 deaths and 801 recoveries. The active case in the district is 801.
Sundargarh’s COVID-19 tally has mounted to 1882 with 13 deaths and 1258 recoveries. As many as 608 cases are still active in the district.
