Jajpur: A 10-year-old boy, allegedly sold by his father at a market in Barchana area of Odisha’s Jajpur district, was rescued by police on Thursday.
According to sources, Ghana Siku, a resident of Sasan Purusottampur, went to Aruha market along with his son two days ago and sold him to a person there. His wife Sangita Siku strongly opposed his decision and sought help of locals, who then informed the district child protection officer Niranjan Kar about the incident. Following which, a team of Barchana police rescued the boy and handed him over to his mother last night.
Sangita said that she knew nothing about the money her husband got by selling their son. Rajendra Kumar Satpathy, who works with ‘Ama Ghara Sishujatna Gruha’ and visited the village after getting a letter from the district child protection office, said that it is still not clear if the boy was sold by his father. “He has, however, been rescued and handed over to his parents,” he added.
Police too are yet to confirm if Ghana had sold the child, the sources added.
