Bhubaneswar: Voice of SOA Community 90.4, the Community Radio station of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA), celebrated its tenth anniversary on Saturday.
Recalling its role during important events, SOA Vice-President Saswati Das said the Community Radio was in the forefront in providing information when cyclone Fani hit Odisha a few years ago, adversely affecting Bhubaneswar, and also during the COVID-19 pandemic.
RJ Ramaballabh narrated his experience of being confined to the studio for two days with other RJs during cyclone Fani.
SOA Radio, as it is popularly known, has also been providing important inputs on healthcare and agriculture while broadcasting views of various educationists, doctors, scientists and researchers, Saswati said while addressing a programme organized to mark the day.
Congratulating staff members and RJs, she recalled the contributions of RJ Shabnam Shireen, who passed away after contracting COVID-19. A minute’s silence was observed in her memory.
SOA Chancellor Prof D P Ray, Vice-Chancellor Prof Ashok Kumar Mahapatra, Pro-Vice Chancellor-cum-Registrar Prof. BB Pradhan, Deans of different institutes and others were present on the occasion.
Prof Mahapatra said radio is a medium which will continue to play an important role in enlightening the society as it reaches places where several other agencies can’t.
