Bhubaneswar: The COVID-19 resurgence fear continues to grip the Odisha capital, which has reported 110 cases in the last five days.
The city now has 130 active cases, the highest of all urban areas in the state, against 73 at the beginning of March with 24 more people testing positive for the virus on Thursday.
Three positive cases were detected in private schools at Patia here.
Following this, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has started randomly collecting samples from a number of institutes, including Trident School of Biotech Sciences, ODM Public School, Kendriya Vidyalaya – I and Allen Coaching Centre for RT-PCR test. Special squads have been formed in all zone for this purpose.
BMC Deputy Commissioner Suvendu Sahoo said that enforcement has been expedited and daily testing increased. A total of 1,050 samples were collected from different places for tests on Thursday, he added.
Samples were also collected from the airport, railway station and CRPF camp.
Notably, over 30 students of Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB) have reportedly contracted COVID-19.
On Thursday, BMC Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary visited Utkal University campus, railway station and airport to review the precautionary measures.
