12-Hour Bandh Hits Normalcy In Daringbadi
Daringbadi: A 12-hour bandh called by locals under the aegis of Gramya Hindu Debottar Comittee affected normal life in Daringbadi of Kandhamal district on Monday.
The bandh was observed to protest against the eviction drive being conducted by the district administration.
Almost all shops, commercial establishments and offices remained shut while vehicles stayed off the roads due to the strike.
The agitators picketed and staged blockades by burning tyres on several major roads. Traders and members of different social organisations also extended their support to the bandh.
“We oppose the administration’s decision to demolish a Durga Mandap at Chari Chhak. Such move will hurt the sentiments of hundreds of devotees. So, we request the officials concerned to withdraw the anti-people decision,” a committee member said.
