Sonepur: Normal life was crippled at Binika of Sonepur district on Tuesday following a 12-hour bandh called by locals demanding immediate filling up of doctor posts in the local community health center and other hospitals of the district.
Almost all shops, business establishments, educational institutions and offices remained closed, while vehicles stayed off the roads at various places due to the strike.
The bandh supporters staged demonstrations and blocked several key roads by burning tyres.
“Absence of adequate number of doctors in hospitals has become a major problem here as people are deprived of accessing quality healthcare services. Despite repeated requests by locals, members of different organisations and political party representatives the district administration has remained callous towards our plight”, an agitator said.
On August 13, Congress activists had called for a 12-hour bandh here to press for the same demand.
Members of Bar Association and traders’ union had extended their support to the bandh.
The members of BJP had also observed a strike on August 11 over the same issue.
