Bhubaneswar: Odisha continued to reel under a severe heatwave on Friday, with 12 places recording maximum temperatures above 42°C, according to data released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Jharsuguda stood out as the hottest spot in the state, registering a blistering 44.8°C, 3.6°C above normal. Other western and interior districts also sweltered under extreme conditions. Titlagarh recorded 44°C, while Sambalpur sizzled at 43.6°C, Hirakud at 43.4°C, Angul at 43.1°C, Balangir at 43°C, Sonepur at 42.8°C and Sundargarh, Nuapada, Rourkela, Bhawanipatna at 42.6°C each, and Talcher at 42.5°C.
Several stations witnessed unusually high day temperatures with significant departures from normal.
In contrast, the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack saw some respite compared to the previous day, with temperatures dropping to 39.4°C and 38.4°C respectively. However, high humidity continued to make conditions feel oppressive even in coastal areas.

While there is no heatwave warning for Odisha, the IMD has warned of hot and humid conditions at isolated places in the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati till April 25, following which the day temperature across the state is likely to fall by 2-4⁰C due to possible thundershowers (Kalbaisakhi).
