Bhubaneswar: The fatality rate in Odisha stands at 0.60% with 305 COVID-19 deaths against the national average of 1.98 per cent.
However, the Health Department has categorised another 53 deaths of coronavirus patients in the state for other health reasons.
With an average of 10 days a day, 128 patients have succumbed to the virus in the last 12 days. Barring Deogarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir and Nuapada, COVID-deaths have been reported from the rest 25 districts of the state.
The Health and Family Welfare department has cautioned people with chronic diseases as nearly 60 per cent of the deceased had diabetes and hypertension.
Of the nine deaths on Wednesday, five were suffering diabetes.
With the nine new deaths, the virus has so far claimed 144 lives in Ganjam district, followed by 42 in Khurda, 19 in Sundargarh, 16 in Gajapati, 11 in Cuttack, 14 in Rayagada, eight in Nayagarh, seven in Balasore, five in Kandhamal, four each in Keonjhar, Bhadrak, five in Puri, three each in Bargarh, Jajpur, Angul and Kendrapada, two each in Koraput, Sambalpur, Malkangiri, Jagatsinghpur, Kalahandi and one each in Jharsuguda, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, and Dhenkanal.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 tally in Odisha has touched 50672. While 34806 patients have recovered, 15508 are still active.
