Bhubaneswar: Former IAS officer and ex-Managing Director of Odisha Rural Housing Development Corporation (ORHDC) Vinod Kumar was on Friday convicted by a court for the 12th time in a corruption case.
The court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar, sentenced former bureaucrat Vinod Kumar and six others to three years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine for misappropriating government funds meant for rural poor people.
Besides former MD of ORHDC Vinod Kumar, the other convicted persons are Swosti Ranjan Mohapatra, Ex-Company Secretary; Pradeep Kumar Rout, Ex-Accounts Officer; Satya Prakash Behera, Ex-Junior Loan Officer; Janendra Swain, Ex-System Analyst; Umesh Chandra Swain, Ex-Recovery Assistant; and Samgram Keshari Sahoo, Proprietor of M/S-Ecstasy Builders & Developers Pvt. Ltd.
The court found them guilty of diverting funds obtained on a government guarantee to benefit private builder Samgram Keshari Sahoo by creating fake and forged documents, causing a loss of Rs 52,95,000.
This marks the 12th conviction for Vinod Kumar, found guilty of corruption in ORHDC cases involving conspiracy with private individuals.
