Balasore: Police detained 13 persons late on Wednesday in connection with the assault on Baliapal police station IIC in Odisha’s Balasore district on July 26.
According to sources, they were picked up during a late night raid.
The detainees are currently being interrogated at Rupsa police station.
Following the death of a minor boy of Uluda village inside a dhaba (food joint) at Baliapal area on July 26, IIC Prabhu Kalyan Acharya had gone there for on-the-the spot investigation. Expressing resentment over the delay in the arrival of the police, irate locals beat him up and set the dhaba on fire.
Following the incident, Acharya was transferred to the district police headquarters. Remuna IIC Ranjit Sahu replaced him.
Later, Director General of Police (DGP) RP Sharma directed the Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) to probe the incident.
