13 Women, One Child Dead In UP’s Wedding Tragedy; Here’s What Happened

New Delhi: Death can come at any time, any place. Thirteen women and girls, including a child, were killed on Wednesday after falling into a well during a wedding celebration in Nebua Naurangia village, Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.

Several women and girls were standing on the well during the Haldi ceremony when the iron grill over the well suddenly gave way and they fell inside. Around 15 women were rescued by villagers and the police, but 11 could not be saved, India Today reported.

Extending his condolences to the kin of the victims, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) and Rs 50,000 each for the injured.
