A schoolboy who measured 7 feet 3 inches on his 14th birthday on Sunday is set to be confirmed as the world’s largest male teenager.
Hailing from Leshan City in China’s south-western province of Sichuan, Xiaoyu stands at least two feet taller than other boys of his age and older. And to think that he has another four years of growth to come, sky is literally the limit for him.
The boy has applied for him to be acknowledged as the world’s tallest male teenager by Guinness World Records. He will replace an American teen who was 7-foot-1 when he was 16.
“Since I entered school, I noticed that I am taller than the other kids of my age. Many students mistook me as a fellow from senior generation. That did disturb me, but I decided to make it official by applying to Guinness to see if I could get the world record,” Xiaoyu was quoted as saying by the media.
He is so large, special furniture had to be made for him, including a desk and chair that he could fit in so he could study.
Lu Lei, Guinness World Records certification officer Lu Lei went to Leshan to certify Xiaoyu’s challenge to the title of ‘Tallest Youth (Male).’
A doctor from Leshan People’s Hospital and a journalist were present as witnesses when the boy’s measurement took place.
“The challenger must be male and aged between 13 and 18. At the moment, the former holder of the Guinness World Record is over 18 years old,” explained the Guiness officer.
The measurement report has been sent to London to be audited at the Guinness headquarters, and once confirmed, Xiaoyu will get the official title.
