Malkangiri: Police arrested two persons in connection with illegal transportation of contraband ganja (cannabis) under Chitrakonda police limits in Malkangiri district on Thursday.
The police have seized 143 kg 70 grams of ganja and a car without registration number.
The arrested have been identified as Dinesh Thakar (31) of Piply Kaam under Chilchipur police limits and Rabi Sankar (28) of Sujalpur Mandi village under Sujalpur police limits. Both are from Madhya Pradesh.
Chitrakonda PS IIC and his staff participated to detect them. Further investigation into the matter is on, said the police.
On August 2, Excise Department officials seized two quintal of Marijuana at Cuttack Railway Station and arrested one person.
Notably, a squad of Cuttack excise conducted raid on Patna-Puri Express in Cuttack Railway Station. They recovered two quintal of Marijuana (cannabis) from a person, identified as Manas Ranjan Singh, travelling in the train.
According to the sources, the contraband item was illegally being smuggled from Patna to Gandhipalli in Cuttack and Haldiapalli in Bhubaneswar. The value of the contraband was estimated to be Rs 2 lakh, said an official.
On July, police had seized over a quintal of ganja and arrested seven persons carrying the narcotics.
A night police patrolling team intercepted two cars near Padua and seized the banned substance after searching both the vehicles.
The ganja was reportedly being transported from Padua to Angul district.
