1567 New Anganwadi Centres To Come Up In Odisha: Minister
Bhubaneswar: Minister of Women & Child Development and Mission Shakti Tukuni Sahu on Saturday informed the State Assembly that the work is underway to set up 1567 new Anganwadi centres in Odisha.
Stating that there are 62,171 Anganwadi centres in Odisha at present, the minister said the state government had submitted a proposal to the Centre for setting up 7844 new Anganwadi centres. However, the Centre has returned the proposal asking the state to resubmit the proposal after a thorough review.
She said the state government has now decided to open 1567 new Anganwadi centres in the Scheduled Tribe dominated areas as well as the places having reports of malnutrition among the children.
The minister said Rs 7 lakh is earmarked for each new Anganwadi centre of which Rs 5 lakh is provided from the MGNERGA Yojana and Rs 2 lakh from the state government.
She further said for setting up Anganwadi centres in urban areas, the collectors have been asked to form a committee to identify the land wherever it is not available.
On the nutrition of the children, she said eggs are provided to each Anganwadi centre for five days in a week.
