Nabarangpur: A 16-month-old baby boy was allegedly branded with a hot iron rod at Nishinahandi village of Nandahandi block in Nabarangpur district.
According to sources, the baby boy had fever and his family members took him to a local quack. When there was no improvement in his condition, they branded hot iron on his head, nose, shoulder and back of his neck to cure him. However, his condition deteriorated and he was admitted to Nabarangpur district headquarters hospital (DHH) late on Tuesday.
The baby is stable and his condition is improving, doctors at DHH said.
Despite several awareness programmes, cases of branding keep pouring in from different parts of the state.
In January, 25 children were branded with a hot iron rod at Thoria Chhanda village under Mathkargola panchayat in Bhuban block of Dhenkanal district to cure stomach ailment.
