Jajpur: A 17-year-old tribal girl from Sukinda Chromites valley under Kaliapani police limits in Odisha’s Jajpur district was allegedly trafficked to Madhya Pradesh, sold, and forcibly married to the buyer.
The incident, which occurred two weeks ago, came to light after the girl’s family filed a complaint with Kaliapani police on Tuesday night.
According to police, two sisters from Sansailo village in Sukinda orchestrated the trafficking. The younger sister, a close friend of the victim, deceived her with promises of a pilgrimage and sightseeing trip. On July 27, the friend and her elder sister took the girl to Madhya Pradesh, but instead of returning, they allegedly sold her to a man who wanted to marry her.
The day after reaching Madhya Pradesh, the girl contacted her parents, claiming she was fine. However, about two weeks later, her family discovered she had been sold and married. They also received marriage photos and videos the girl sent to a friend in her village. The family then lodged an FIR at Kaliapani police station, providing the photos and videos as evidence.
Police have registered a case and launched a search for the accused women. “The two sisters are under the police scanner. We are taking all steps to nab them,” said Kalinga Nagar Additional Superintendent of Police Suprasanna Mallick.
