Bhubaneswar: The Omicron tally in Odisha breached the 100-mark on Monday with the detection of 28 more cases and among them, 18 have international travel history.
The cases were detected from over 250 samples sent for genome sequencing to the Institute of Life Sciences, Bhubaneswar, sources said.
While eight are local contacts, 18 had returned from Oman, Abu Dhabi, Ethiopia, Dubai and Switzerland and two travelled within India, Director, Public Health, Niranjan Mishra told the media.
Among the local cases, four are from Jagatsinghpur, two from Cuttack and one each from Khurda and Kendrapada.
Of the cumulative 103 cases, 83 have been detected in the last 10 days.
On Saturday, 14 Omicron cases were detected while January 5 saw 24 people testing positive for Omicron in Odisha.
It was on December 21 that the first two cases of Omicron was detected in the state and another two were found infected by this variant of COVID-19 on December 23, four on December 26, one on December 29, five on December 30 and 23 on January. 2
