Baripada: A 19-year-old youth allegedly strangled his mother to death at a village in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district following a quarrel over family issues.
According to sources, the incident took place on Thursday night in Barajpur village under the jurisdiction of Baripada Sadar police station. The deceased was identified as Srimati Singh.
Accused Kuiyan Singh has been arrested by the police in connection with the incident and an investigation is underway.
Police sources said Srimati’s husband had died earlier, and the couple had four sons and two daughters. Her two daughters had been married off several years ago.
The woman and her four sons had been working in Chennai. Recently, Srimati and her second son, Kuiyan, returned to their native village.
An argument reportedly erupted between the mother and son over some issue. During the altercation, outh allegedly strangled Srimati inside their house, killing her.
The incident came to light on Friday morning after neighbours learned about the death and informed the police.
A police team reached the spot and began an investigation. Police recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.
