Bhubaneswar: For the first time during third wave of COVID pandemic, the daily caseload crossed 1,000 in the Odisha capital on Thursday.
The city witnessed a major surge as 1055 COVID positive cases were reported against 803 on Wednesday, 710 new cases on Tuesday, 619 cases on Monday and 574 cases on Sunday.
According to Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), of the day’s total cases, 1001 patients are local contacts while 54 are from quarantine.
Of the local contact cases, the highest 64 cases are from Patia, followed by 62 from Chandrasekharpur, 53 from Nayapalli, 38 from Old Town, 33 each from Laxmi Sagar and Sundarpada and 32 from Saheed Nagar.
As many as 125 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours while there was no casualty during the period.
The active cases went up to 5,552 while total 1,29,834 people have been infected by the virus so far.
