2-And-Half Years After His Death, No Takers Yet For Sushant Singh Rajput’s Flat

Mumbai: It was in June 2020 that Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Bandra home. Despite being put up for rent shortly after the flat was vacated, there are no takers yet.

Real estate broker Rafique Merchant recently posted a clip of the sea-facing flat on social media and informed that it’s available for rent at Rs 5 lakh per month.

However, there is a condition. The owner of the flat, an NRI, doesn’t want to rent his flat to any Bollywood celebrity.

He is looking for a corporate person preferably, but nothing seems to be working out.

Talented Bollywood actor Sushant’s death had initially been ruled as suicide by Mumbai Police. But a complaint against Sushant’s actress girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty by his family ultimately led to the case being handed over to Central Bureau of Investigation. The Enforcement Directorate and Narcotics Control Bureau are also looking into the financial and drugs-related angles, but there is yet to be closure in the case.

“People are scared to move into this flat. When prospective tenants would hear that this is the same apartment where Sushant died, they would initially not even visit the flat. Now, people are at least visiting the flat. Yet, the deal is not getting finalised. The owner is also hell-bent and doesn’t want to come down on the rent. If he does, it’ll be sold quickly. Since he’s selling it at the market price, tenants prefer buying some other flat of a similar size in the same area since it would come without the baggage of controversy that this flat is associated with,” Rafique told Bollywood Hungama.

“The parties are told in advance that this is where Sushant used to stay. Some people don’t mind the history and want to go for it. But their friends and family members discourage them from going ahead with the deal. Now the owner doesn’t want to rent out the flat to a film celeb, no matter who or how big he or she is. He’s clear that he wants to hand over the flat to a corporate person,” Rafique added.
