Cuttack: Continuing its drive against extortion, the Twin City Commissionerate Police on Thursday arrested two persons for threatening a builder to give Rs 20 lakh.

As per the complaint lodged by the builder Gyana Prakash Kar, the accused Jitendra Parida along with his accomplice Govinda Sahu intercepted him near Gundicha temple on Kathajodi Ring Road between 10.30 pm and 11 pm on Wednesday night and demanded Rs 20 lakh at gunpoint.

Kar managed to escape from the place and filed a complaint at Markatnagar police station.

Police said the accused had been calling Kar for the last six months demanding extortion money. Parida had also allegedly threatened to shoot him if he doesn’t give the money.

Following investigation, the police arrested both Parida and Sahu on Thursday. They also seized two pistols, two live ammunitions, a motorcycle and a mobile phone from their possession.

A case has been registered at Markatnagar police station under Sections 341, 323, 294, 386, 506 and 34 of the IPC r/w Section 25/27 of Arms Act and further investigation is on.
