Berhampur: Police have arrested two persons for alleged murder of a mentally challenged girl in Odisha’s Ganjam district recently.
Speaking to media persons on Wednesday, Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek said the mentally challenged girl, identified as Bishnupriya, the daughter of Basudev Sahu of Choudhury Tikarpada village under K Nuagoan police limits in the district, was found dead on the verandah of her neighbour on January 9. A day before, her family had filed a missing complaint regarding her with the police.
Bishnupirya’s parents used to send her to her younger sister’s house in the same village to sleep at night. As usual, she had gone there on the night of January 8.
The SP said Padman Sahu and Rubita Adhikari of the village, who were married to different persons, had illicit relationship. After her marriage, Rubita was staying with her husband in Bhubaneswar. But when she came to Tikarpada, Padman used to meet her.
He further said on January 8, Bishnupriya saw Padman coming to the house of Rubita who was the neighbour of her sister. Suspecting that Bishnupriya might reveal their illicit relationship to somebody, Rubita brought her to her house. Both Rubita and Padman have admitted before police that they killed her by suffocating her with a pillow, he added.
During investigation, police have seized broken bangles and hair clips of Bishnupriya besides the blood-stained pillow that was used for murder from Rubita’s house.
