Baripada: Two tourists, stated to be brothers, drowned while on a visit to the popular Sitakunda waterfall, located at the foothills of Similipal Wildlife Sanctuary in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Friday.
Sources said a group from Bhadrak district had been to Sitakunda on a picnic when three of them entered the water for a bath. However, they slipped and fell deep into the water.
While one of them was rescued immediately by others present at the site, two others went missing as they could not be rescued.
On being informed, police and fire service personnel rushed to the site. After a search operation, fire service personnel recovered the bodies of the two tourists from the pond.
The bodies were sent to the District Headquarters Hospital in Baripada for post-mortem. Police have initiated further investigation into the incident.
