2 Critical As Speeding Car Rams Scooter In Bhubaneswar; No Breakthrough Yet In Rajmahal Square Accident

Bhubaneswar: While the accused in the recent Rajmahal Square hit-and-run incident, in which a daily wager was killed, is still at large, two persons were seriously injured in a car-scooter crash near Utkal Hospital in Bhubaneswar on Monday.

According to sources, the accident took place when the biker was hit by the speeding car while taking a U-turn near Utkal Hospital and dragged for at least 100 metres. Passersby rescued the profusely bleeding biker and rushed him to Capital Hospital. The car driver, who also sustained injuries, was admitted to a private hospital.

Police have seized the vehicles and launched a probe.

On the other hand, there has been no breakthrough in the Rajmahal Square hit-and-run case. Despite repeated raids on the house of the accused, Bikash Pal, who is an officer at a private bank in the city, at Kakatpur and his residence at Pokhariput, police are yet to trace him.

Following the accident on September 29, Pal had abandoned his car on the bed of Daya river and even threw his mobile phone away to evade detection. While it is yet to be ascertained whether he was behind the wheels when the accident occurred, his mysterious disappearance has strongly raised suspicion against him. Police have also dismissed his wife’s claim that he had suicidal tendency and this act could be an attempt to end his life.

Four day after the accident, police on Monday identified the victim as Dinabandhu Baral, a resident of Bharasapur village in Pipili of Puri district, and handed over the body to his wife.
