Bhubaneswar: Two elephants were spotted roaming Shikharchandi Hill in Bhubaneswar, sparking panic among residents of the area.
The tuskers named Bada Fereketa and Sana Fereketa have been spotted roaming at the hill for the last two days. People residing in the area have urged officials of Chandaka forest division to act immediately to chase away the animals.
The area witnesses frequent straying of elephants from nearby forests. “I have spotted two elephants last night. They are mostly moving after 5 pm,” a worker told a local news channel.
Notably, the Shikharchandi temple gate was closed and movement of people restricted in the surrounding area on December 27 last year for public safety, after two elephants were seen roaming the hill. Just yesterday, locals of Nidhipur village under Haj Panchayat in the Tangi area of Khurda district staged a road blockade protesting the death of Sushant Kumar Nayak reportedly by a wild elephant.
