Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to make a brief yet impactful two-hour official visit to Odisha on October 25.
The primary highlight of his itinerary is the inauguration of the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) state-of-the-art Greenfield Data Centre at Info Valley-II in Jatni.
According to the tentative itinerary released by the Chief Secretary’s office, PM Modi is expected to land at the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar at around 4.30 pm on October 25, aboard a special Indian Air Force aircraft. From there, he will travel by helicopter to the Khordha helipad and proceed by road to the RBI facility for the inauguration ceremony, which is expected to last about one hour. After the event, he will return by road to Bhubaneswar airport and depart the same evening, around 6.30 pm, for New Delhi.
Before heading for Mumbai to participate in the inaugural session of India Chem 2026 and the CEO Roundtable, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Wednesday chaired a high-level review meeting at the State BJP Headquarters to assess the preparations for Prime Minister’s upcoming visit to the state. He evaluated the progress of the arrangements and discussed necessary measures to ensure the smooth execution of the PM’s itinerary.
State Chief Secretary Anu Garg had earlier chaired preparatory meetings to review security, logistics, and coordination arrangements for the brief visit.
RBI’s Rs 169 Cr Greenfield Data Centre
The facility, developed at an estimated cost of Rs 169–170 crore across a campus of 18.55 acres, will serve as a critical backup to the RBI’s primary data centre at Kharghar in Navi Mumbai. It is designed to strengthen data management, disaster recovery, cybersecurity, and business continuity for core functions such as currency management, payment and settlement systems, and regulatory operations. Built to stringent global reliability standards with fault-tolerant systems and multi-layer redundancy, the centre aims to insulate India’s financial sector from disruptions.
The foundation stone was laid by then RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das on March 22, 2023. The site in Info Valley-II was chosen for its geographical stability, away from seismically active zones and high-risk international border areas, reducing exposure to natural disasters and geopolitical vulnerabilities. Locating it outside major digital hubs such as Mumbai and Chennai also helped mitigate concentrated cyber risks and network vulnerabilities associated with heavy traffic corridors and subsea cable landing points.
The campus will also house the Enterprise Computing & Cybersecurity Training Institute, focused on research, capacity building, and skill development in emerging technologies relevant to the central bank and the wider financial sector.
Odisha BJP leaders have described the project as a boost to the state’s digital infrastructure and its emergence as a technology and electronics manufacturing destination, noting the Centre’s broader focus on the region through such investments.
