Bhubaneswar: In another mishap involving Ama Bus, two persons sustained grievous injuries after being hit by a city bus in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
As per preliminary information, the victims were waiting for an auto-rickshaw at the Master Canteen Square when they were hit by the bus. The injured were identified as Ranjit Behera and Hrudananda Mohanty.
While Ranjit sustained injuries on the right leg, Hrudananda’s shoulder and waist were affected.
They had arrived in Bhubaneswar from Puri by a train and were waiting for an auto-rickshaw when the mishap took place, sources said.
The injured were immediately taken to the Capital Hospital for treatment. Their condition was stated to be stable.
Eyewitnesses claimed that the bus was being driven recklessly. They further accused the bus staff of having assaulted some people at the site after the accident.
Meanwhile, Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), which manages Ama Bus, expressed regret over the incident and said both the crew members of the vehicle were terminated with immediate effect.
In a statement, CRUT said two passengers were sitting under the bus as it was hot outside. The bus had 20-minute halt at Master Canteen OD terminal. Without knowing that people are sitting under the bus, the driver started the vehicle and immediately the passengers near the bus alerted the bus driver and the driver took back the vehicle. In this incident, the two persons suffered minor injuries. They are undergoing treatment in Capital Hospital.
Both the Driver and Guide would have avoided the incident had they been alert and careful. Both the crew members are terminated with immediate effect, it said, adding that CRUT has been taking series of training programs for promoting safe driving.
