Berhampur: Two persons were killed as lightning struck them in separate incidents in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Saturday.
According to sources, both incidents took place in two villages under Patrapur block of the district, In one incident, Kedar Gouda and Hari Gouda of Mandarada village had gone to nearby forest for grazing their goats.
As the area was hit by thunderstorm along with lighting and rain, they took shelter under a tree. At the time, lightning struck the tree and Hari died on the spot while Kedar was seriously injured.
In the other incident, a minor boy, Rupa Sabar and his two friends of Madukabad village had gone to the mango orchard in the afternoon when the nor’wester hit the area. As the lightning struck the orchard, Rupa died on the spot while his friends were injured, the sources said.
The injured persons have been admitted in the hospital at Patrapur and their condition was stated to be critical.
