Sundargarh: Two persons died while four others were critically injured when a poclain vehicle crashed into an SUV in which they were travelling, at Garjanbahal coal mine under Hemgiri police limits in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as shift-in-charge Jagdish Oram and machine operator Umakant Patel. The accident took place when they were returning home in the SUV after duty hours. The severity of this mishap can be gauged from the mangled remains of the SUV.
The injured were rushed to Jindal Hospital at Raigarh in neighbouring Chhattisgarh, sources said, adding that their condition is stated to be critical.
Meanwhile, tension ran high at the mine with workers staging a protest demanding compensation the bereaved families and those injured in the accident. They withdrew the agitation later after a discussion with MCL General Manager.
