Berhampur: Two persons including a woman were killed and four others critically injured in separate incidents of lightning strike in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Tuesday.
As per reports, Bishnupriya Panda of Baramundali village under Sanakhemundi block in the district had gone to work in crop field in the afternoon despite forecast of rain and lightning. While she was working under open sky, lightning struck and she fell unconscious.
The villagers rushed Bishnupriya to a hospital at Digapahandi. Nut she succumbed while undergoing treatment.
In the second incident, Bhalu Mahakud of Narasinghpur was struck by the lightning in similar manner. He was also taken to the Digapahandi hospital. But the doctors of the hospital declared him brought dead.
The third incident of lightning strike took place in Govindpur. Here also, a group of women labourers were working in a paddy field when the lightning struck them. Four of them were critically injured and admitted to a local hospital. Their condition was stated to be critical.
