Bhubaneswar: At least two Maoists were gunned down in an exchange of fire with security forces at the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border on Monday, police said.
The fierce gunbattle took place on the border of Odisha’s Nuapada and Chhattisgarh’s Gariaband district. The two ultras were killed during the joint operation involving the personnel of Odisha and Chhattisgarh police, and the CRPF.
Following the encounter, the security personnel have seized huge quantities of arms, ammunitions and Maoist articles from the site, said the Odisha Police in a statement. Combing operation has been intensified by the security forces following the gunbattle.
Acting on intelligence inputs, police forces of Odisha and Chhattisgarh along with the CRPF had launched an anti-Naxal operation in the Kularighat reserve forest at the inter-state border. The forest is located in Chhattisgarh’s Gariaband district, adjacent to Odisha’s Nuapada district.
