Jagatsinghpur: Two members of a family reportedly died as diarrhoea outbreak took place in Paradip-Kujang area of Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district.
As per information, ten others are stated to be undergoing treatment following the outbreak of the infectious disease in the area under Kujang block of the district.
As per claims made by the family members, one Deej Rautray (70) had died 13 days ago allegedly after suffering from diarrhoea. His 45-year-old nephew Bipin Rautray also died on Saturday due to diarrhoea while two of his daughters, who are also suffering from the same disease, are now undergoing treatment in a hospital at Cuttack, they claimed.
Locals claimed that several people are suffering from diarrhoea allegedly after drinking contaminated water. They claimed that the water from the drain in front of their house gets mixed-up with the water they use for drinking and cooking.
They alleged that despite repeated requests, the local Sarpanch is not taking any action to set the drainage system right and ensure supply of safe drinking water for the people.
However, doctors at Kujang hospital said that patients with symptoms of diarrhoea have been given treatment and getting cured. They claimed that no death due to diarrhoea has been registered so far at the hospital.
