Cuttack: Two people of Odisha’s Cuttack have fallen victim to cyber frauds who have become active to take advantage of festive offer by online marketing platforms.

Following several complaints of cheating by fake offers made in social media sites Facebook and Whatsapp, Crime Branch and district cyber police stations have launched investigation and drawn up a long list of such fraud websites.

According to sources, some cyber frauds have duplicated the reputed brands like Amazon and Flipkart and were trying to dupe the people by making alluring offers on the occasion of Dussehra and Diwali. Retired deputy director of agriculture department was one of the victims of phishing attack.

The former bureaucrat, Trilochan Sundar Mohanty who stays in Badambadi of Cuttack, was lured by an offer of a Samsung mobile phone costing Rs 35,000 being sold at Rs 2,500. Though he deposited the money, the promised cellphone is yet to be delivered to him.

Businessman Debabrata Panda also fell victim to a similar fraud website. Attracted by an offer of cutlery set being sold at 60% discount on a site looking like Amazon, he booked it and deposited Rs 15,000. He is still waiting for the delivery.
